Also VSL has the only true legato out there which is another vital ingrediant for realism and vital to Pop music. If you think about it - it's the one thing that shouts "samples!" to the listener (as in the demo you sighted.) It's a show-stopper. But if you're doing Pop you will definetly have some short articulations since that's so common in that style as you know. If you only have "a few lines" that are legato you might be able to get away with it. My experience is that vary rarely will you not need repitition samples. Thanks once again for your help and support. I would like to ask how many alternate samples are in VSL per layer? Do you get 2, 3, 4, for the same velocity layer that "rotate" each time you trigger that particular layer/ Since you mentioned that VSL has "repetition samples that trigger automatically.

Of course this is not the case in a full orchestral piece. For a few lines here and there, the repetition my not be very noticeable and easier to get a way with. I guess it all depends on "HOW" much strings are you using (IMHO). Of course having some strings behind your music is different that a full orchestra arrangement where the strings are your main instruments and you would definitely need alternate samples.

Being that I am new to string libraries and mostly produce rock, pop, and jazz, this is something I would wish to avoid as well. Thanks dpcon for your reply! I appreciate your input.Īs a serious professional myself who's been recoding for 30 years, I am glad you pointed out the repetition samples.
